One-Pan Beef Patties & Potatoes. Recipe ↓
■ INGREDIENTS
For the beef patties:
• ground beef (80-85% lean) - 1 lb (450 g)
• onion - 1 medium, grated
• egg - 1 large
• breadcrumbs - ¼ cup
• garlic - 2 cloves, grated or minced
• paprika - 1 tsp
• black pepper - 1 tsp
• chili flakes - 1 tsp (optional)
• ground cumin - 1 tsp
• fresh parsley - 2 tbsp, finely chopped
For the tray:
• potatoes - 3-4 medium, thinly sliced
• onion - 3 medium, sliced into rings
• tomatoes – 3, sliced
• mozzarella – 1-1½ cups, shredded or sliced
For the tomato sauce:
• butter - ½ tbsp
• tomato paste - 1 tbsp
• water - 1½ cups
• salt - to taste
■ HOW TO COOK:
1. In a large bowl, combine all the beef patty ingredients. Mix until just combined - don’t overmix.
2. If you have time, cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (recommended for better texture). If not, you can cook right away.
3. Shape the mixture into small, flat beef patties (about palm-sized, slightly thicker than a burger).
4. Slice the potatoes, onions, and tomatoes into thin rounds.
5. Arrange the beef patties in a baking dish. Slide potato, onion, and tomato slices between each patty.
6. To make the sauce: melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat, add tomato paste and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, pour in water, season with salt, and stir well.
7. Pour the tomato sauce evenly over the tray.
8. Wet a sheet of parchment paper, squeeze out excess water, and loosely cover the dish (you can also cover tightly with foil instead).
9. Bake in a preheated oven at 365°F (185°C) for 40-50 minutes.
10. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for 10 minutes.
11. Sprinkle mozzarella evenly over the top after. Return to the oven and bake for another 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
12. Serve hot. This dish pairs perfectly with plain white rice.
