Today I’m in Sheffield visiting Charley’s , a family-run takeaway that’s been serving the city for 13 years. Behind the counter is a family with over 50 years of butchery experience, and they make their own homemade lamb doner kebab from scratch.

I tried their classic old-school lamb doner served in a fresh pitta, packed with beautifully seasoned lamb, diced onions, chillies and a blend of herbs. I also sampled some of their chicken and their homemade sauces to see if they lived up to the reputation.

I’ve eaten a lot of kebabs over the years… but this one genuinely surprised me. It wasn’t greasy, it was full of flavour, and it’s honestly one of the best doner kebabs I’ve ever had.
