One of Texas Monthly’s 25 Best New Taquerias is right here in Houston.
Alturas Mexican Cafe is a family-owned restaurant serving dishes inspired by generations of family recipes from San Luis Potosí and northern Mexico, with a broader pan-Mexican focus. I tried their Mexican mocha, creamy street corn dip, weekend menudo, chilaquiles verdes with cecina, Mole de Origen, and my first-ever pambazo.
The standout for me was easily the Mole de Origen, a rich house-made mole recipe that’s been passed down through generations. The pambazo was also a surprise favorite, packed with chorizo and potatoes before being dipped in guajillo sauce and grilled.
