Baklava
Ingredients
Filo pastry, as needed
Unsalted butter, melted
Pistachios, chopped
Walnuts, chopped
Black sesame seeds, rose petals, pistachios, and walnuts for garnish
For the Syrup
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
A few drops of fresh lemon juice
Instructions
Prepare the syrup in advance. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan and simmer until slightly thickened. Add a few drops of lemon juice and let it cool completely.
Shape the filo pastry however you like. Brush with melted butter, add pistachios, walnuts, or a mixture of both, then roll or fold as desired.
Place the baklava pieces in a baking tray and brush the tops generously with melted butter.
If your baklava needs to be cut, cut it with a sharp knife before baking.
Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes, or until beautifully golden and crisp.
Remove from the oven and immediately pour the cold syrup over the hot baklava.
Let it rest for a few minutes so the syrup can absorb.
Garnish with anything you like. I used black sesame seeds, rose petals, pistachios, and walnuts.
Enjoy your homemade baklava with a cup of hot tea! ☕️
