These Steakhouse-Inspired Garlic Mashed Potatoes are inspired by our favorite San Francisco restaurant, House of Prime Rib. ❤️ It was the very first steakhouse I went to in San Francisco with Tom, where we met up with his friends and family. Ever since that first dinner, I’ve been trying to recreate those rich, buttery, unbelievably creamy mashed potatoes at home—and I think this recipe comes pretty close!
Steakhouse-Inspired Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients:
• 3 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and chopped
• Kosher salt (for boiling)
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter
• 5 garlic cloves, smashed
• 2 teaspoons seasoning salt
• Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
• Pinch of cayenne pepper
Directions:
1. Place the peeled and chopped Yukon Gold potatoes in a large pot. Cover with cold water, generously season with kosher salt, and bring to a boil. Cook until fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes.
2. While the potatoes cook, add the heavy cream, butter, smashed garlic cloves, 2 teaspoons seasoning salt, black pepper, and a pinch of cayenne to a saucepan. Simmer gently over low heat for 8–10 minutes without boiling.
3. Drain the potatoes well and mash until smooth.
4. Remove the garlic cloves (or mash them into the cream for extra garlic flavor).
5. Slowly fold the warm garlic butter cream into the potatoes until smooth, creamy, and fluffy.
6. Taste and adjust with more kosher salt and black pepper if needed.
7. Serve warm with an extra sprinkle of seasoning salt and enjoy!
