I’ll show you the most useful long press actions. If you long press on a text message, you can react with a heart, thumbs up, or other emojis. Long press on a link in Safari or Messages lets you preview the webpage without opening it. You can also long press on an app icon on your home screen. That brings up quick actions like opening a specific folder in Photos or starting a new note in Notes. Learn how to long press on iPhone to rearrange apps too. Just long press on an empty area of the home screen until all the icons wiggle. Then you can move or delete them.

Another place where long press helps is inside the Photos app. Long press on a photo to copy, share, or save it to Files. You can also long press on your iPhone keyboard to move the cursor. I show you how to do that by long pressing the space bar. Your keyboard turns into a trackpad so you can drag your finger exactly where you want to type. This works on almost any iPhone running a recent version of iOS.

You can long press on iPhone to clear notifications too. Just long press on a notification from the lock screen or notification center to see more options like mute or deliver quietly.

I also show you how to turn off long press if you find it annoying. Go to Settings, then Accessibility, then Touch, then Haptic Touch. There you can change how long you need to hold before the press activates. Choose fast or slow. And you can test the feel right there on the screen.

If you want to get more done on your iPhone without tapping extra buttons, learn how to long press. It saves time once you get used to it. Try long pressing on your control center icons to get extra settings like Wi-Fi networks or Bluetooth devices. Try long pressing on a song in Apple Music to add it to a playlist.
