The word "pesto" comes from the Italian word *pestare*, meaning "to crush" or "to pound," referring to the traditional method of making the sauce. With that in mind, I crushed and pounded some classic 擂茶 (lei cha) ingredients together to make a pasta!

Just that instead of basil and pine nuts, I used a basil mint and cilantro herb mix, and also peanuts and sesame seeds (ingredients commonly found in lei cha) to create a Malaysian-inspired take on the classic pesto pasta!
