What do you cook when you’re low on groceries? This week, I’m making simple, filling, from-scratch meals with what we already have in the freezer, pantry, and garden.
It’s been a bit of a chaotic week around here. We normally stretch our groceries for about two weeks, but after my car broke down and needed a new transmission, the Labor Day weekend, and a few other things getting in the way, we haven’t made our usual 40-minute trip to the grocery store.
So I’m working with what we have — using some of the less desirable cuts of our freezer beef, stretching what’s left in the pantry, harvesting green beans from the garden, and making homemade sourdough along the way.
Come spend a day at home with me as I feed my sourdough starter, bake homemade bread, make a quick lunch for the kids, harvest from the garden, and turn a few humble ingredients into a filling dinner of slow-roasted beef ribs, mashed potatoes, garden green beans, homemade gravy, and fresh sourdough.
I actually love these seasons of working with what we already have. They give me a reason to rotate through the freezer and pantry, use things that have been sitting around, and remember that you don’t need a perfectly stocked kitchen to make a good meal for your family.
If you enjoy cozy homemaking, seasonal decorating, from-scratch cooking, gardening, motherhood, simple living, and creating a warm and collected home, I’d love to have you subscribe and follow along
