How I Ate 21 Home-Cooked Meals for Just $39! My Frugal Grocery Budget at 92

Good morning! It's Grandma Joan, and another week has gone by, which means it's time to share my weekly menu, grocery costs, and all the little ways I stretch my food budget while still enjoying delicious, homemade meals. July 12 - 19th

This week I ate 21 home-cooked meals for just $39.34, averaging only $5.62 per day! I didn't eat out once, but I certainly didn't get bored. My freezer was full of homemade soups, casseroles, quiche, and other make-ahead meals that made cooking easy while giving me plenty of variety throughout the week.

I'll show you how I use simple freezer meal planning, enhance canned soups with vegetables and meat, and make affordable meals like bacon and tomato sandwiches, pork chops with dressing, homemade minestrone soup, chicken and rice soup, bean salads, Polish sausage, and breakfast casseroles. I also share my favorite tricks for freezing bread, organizing meals, and making healthy food convenient when you're cooking for one.

One thing I've learned over the years is that being frugal isn't being cheap—it's being smart. Planning ahead saves money, reduces food waste, and takes the stress out of deciding what to eat every day. Having healthy meals ready to go makes it much easier to stay independent and enjoy cooking, even at 92 years old.

I also talk about something that's become very important to me: keeping my brain active. Planning meals, organizing my freezer, preparing food, and cooking from scratch all help exercise different parts of the brain. I truly believe that taking care of ourselves in the kitchen is one way we can help maintain our independence as we grow older.

If you're trying to stretch your grocery budget, cook for one, live on Social Security, or simply enjoy wholesome home-cooked meals, I hope my weekly menus give you practical ideas and encouragement.

Thank you so much for watching, subscribing, and spending time with me each week. I appreciate every one of you, and I hope these simple meals inspire you to eat well, save money, and enjoy life one meal at a time!

Love,
Grandma Joan
